How to connect RainWise rain gauges to MeteoHelix personal weather stations

QUESTION: How do I connect a RainWise rain collector rain gauge to a MeteoHelix® personal weather station?

RainWise Tipping Bucket Wired Rain Gauge can easily be used with a MeteHelix personal weather station.

RainWise Tipping Bucket Wired Rain Gauge can easily be used with a MeteHelix personal weather station.

ANSWER: The MeteoHelix IoT Home personal weather station along with the MeteoHelix IoT Pro professional micro-weather station come equipped with an optional rain gauge cable. The cable has two wire leads that need to be connected to the two electrical contacts on any tipping bucket or magnetic rain gauge.

RainWise rain gauges like the RAINEW come with a 60 ft (18 m) cable which contains two wire leads. Wire color is not important in this case, since the MeteoHelix rain gauge cable also has a two wire rain gauge cable. Just connect the wires. The only thing to check is that the wire connections do not touch to produce a short circuit which may produce erroneous rain readings but will not harm the weather station.

Compatible rain gauge models:

  • RAINEW 111 Tipping Bucket Wired Rain Gauge

  • RAINEW 211 Tipping Bucket Wired Rain Gauge

  • RAINEW Wireless Rain Gauge

  • All past RainWise rain gauges and rain collectors

  • Any manufacturer rain gauge with a Normally Open (NO) electrical contact mechanism.

The only requirement is that the magnetic switching contact of a rain gauge produces a momentary contact closure when the rain gauge registers its minimum water amount. This type of rain gauge electrical contact is called a “Normally Open” (NO) contact and is found on 90% of rain gauges on the market today.
